A 10hr YA Further Teacher Training course for yoga teachers to give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to be able to accommodate a yoga class for a pregnant student.

 

What is the overall aim of the course?

The course will give you the teacher, the knowledge, skills and confidence to be able to accommodate a yoga class for a pregnant student. The course will give you the tools to know how to modify group classes, what asana and pranayama exercises are safe, which ones to be encouraged as well as learning about the benefits of yoga and breath to a pregnant student.

What will i be able to do at the end of the course?
You come away from the course feeling confident in teaching pregnant students and will be able to confidently and safely adapt and modify a class that has a pregnant student attend. The 10 teaching hours are accredited by Yoga Alliance and can be added to your achievements.

How will the course be assessed?
You will be monitored throughout the course, at the end, a short assessment will be given where you will in pairs teach each other a short pregnancy safe flow which will be assessed by the teacher. You will also be asked to answer a few short written questions to make sure that you have understood the content of the course.

 

Course Breakdown
- Main Principles of teaching a pregnant student.
- Fundamental Changes anatomically & hormonally in Pregnancy, including a breakdown of Trimesters 1, 2 and 3
- Conditions associated with pregnancy
- Benefits of Asana in pregnancy and birth and the Asana positions recommended during pregnancy, practice teaching these.
- Benefits of Pranayama in pregnancy and birth and the Pranayama exercises recommended during pregnancy, practice teaching these.
- Asana to avoid, practice adapting these.
- Pranayama exercises to avoid, practice adapting these.
- Practical advice on how to adapt a class
- What questions to ask
- How to make your student feel safe and comfortable.

7 of the hours will be contact based hours in the class. There will also be further reading to be given to you prior to the start of the course.
